Fujica GL690 with the EBC Fujinon AE 100mm F3.5 |
The Fujica GL690 is an interchangeable lens rangefinder camera that uses medium format roll film (120 or 220) and shoots a 6 x 9 cm frame. The 670 shoots 6 x 7 cm frames. Too bad that 220 film is no more...
The camera itself is all mechanical, with no electronics. It has a very nice viewfinder with automatic correction parallax frame lines for 100mm and 150mm lenses and a very nice rangefinder for easy focus. All other lenses need an external viewfinder for proper framing.
The bad thing about it is that you may be temped to use it on handhold instead of on a tripod. Big mistake ! It's very heavy and clumsy and the chances of a slanted horizon are enormous !! This camera was made to be used with a tripod.
There are many lenses for this camera, and all are absolutely superb in sharpness, color rendering and craftsmanship:
- Fujinon 50mm F5.6 - Superb ultra wide, very rare
- Fujinon SWS 65mm F8, wide
- Fujinon 65mm F5.6, wide
- Fujinon S 100mm F3.5, normal
- EBC Fujinon AE 100mm F3.5, normal
- Fujinon TS 150mm F5.6
- Fujinon TS 180mm F5.6
- Fujinon 250mm F5.6
All lenses above, except the EBC Fujinon AE 100mm F3.5 are all mechanical with leaf type shutters. This specific lens has an electronic leaf shutter and capable of aperture priority exposure. Just set it to "A" and choose the aperture. If you like, it's still possible to set speed and aperture manually.
The images from this camera and lenses are jaw-dropping.
