PhotoSupreme 2025 pré-release first impressions

Photo Supreme (PSU for short) is an extremely comprehensive and powerful digital asset management software (DAM) aimed for organizing photo collections.

I consider it , by far, the best DAM by a large margin, but this is my opinion (I'm not affiliated neither monetize anything from the manufacturer).

The last version, to be released in a few weeks, version 2025 have evolved a lot and bring some very nice improvements in the usability and now has support for descriptive AI.

To keep things short, basically you need to set up your access to an AI service (GPT for example) and therefore ask the AI service to describe your image. Let's see some examples:

The description from ChatGPT of the first photo was quite accurate. You can trim the results and even add more context to the AI before the analysis.

The second test was also accurate, as you can see in the description

But the third one was a partial miss, since in most times, the AI can't find out the place/location without the input of more context. By the way, the following photo is in Sirmione on Garda Lake, Italy.

This flaw, of course, is not related to PSU itself, but to the AI part. Be aware that no AI analysis is perfect.
If you want more precision, it's better to include geolocation information by activation the GPS location feature if your equipment allows this.

If you add "Sirmione" as a context, the result is spot-on.

The new AI analysis is a powerful and very useful new feature for PSU. But don't expect miracles...

Other highlights are:

  • Improved search engine
  • Excellent photo stack management (stack as gouping, not integration)
  • Excellent labeling system
  • Huge improvement on database performance
  • The Light Table feature is quite nice

What could be improved:

  • It would be great if the Light Table had the same flexibility to arrange the images like Aperture did in the past. But this is a matter of taste.
  • Still taking a look on PSU 2025, I'm not done yet :)

It's incredible the effort the maker do to improve and correct bugs in PSU.
